Adenomyosis
I have recently been diagnosed with Adenomyosis, though actually been suffering for years.
Please if any ladies out there think they have this, push it with your doctor. My period this month has lasted for two weeks and is still going strong. Don't be fobbed off, get it sorted!

Re: Adenomyosis
Oh i know that feeling well !! I chose to have a mirena coil which has been a godsend, I have had it for 5 yrs now and get nothing anymore whoop whoop !
Mind you it took years of persistance and visits to many doctors before I finally found one that said something other than " oh well its all part of being a woman " This fab GP said" well you shouldnt have to put up with that" and i could have kissed him !!

Re: Adenomyosis
Like you mrsp I got fobbed off and finally have been seeing a lovely female doctor who specialises in womens problems. She has referred me to gynae and so far I have been for an ultrasound which diagnosed the adenomyosis. It also found a small cyst on my right kidney, nothing to worry about there though.
I am now waiting for another hospital appointment to have a biopsy and smear.
I went to the docs yesterday as the pain is getting unbearable and over the counter drugs are not working and if I take any more I will turn into a junky. Sadly I couldn't see my doctor and was given a choice of having some hormones tablets to stop the flow but next month it would be worse, guess what I said to that and others that I can not take because of my kidney! So went away with a prescription for cocodamol and a very high blood pressure reading Not happy at all.
I am now feeling very tired, have morrisons, asda and tesco bags under my eyes. I could really do without out it this month and can not have the coil fitted as I am waiting for hospital appointments. Grrrr! Going to call the docs again today and see if I can get a telephone consult with my doc. Wish me luck!

Re: Adenomyosis
Blooming painkillers made me feel sick, dizzy and very ill and to be honest I did take another two as they did not work. So a combination of too many and that they do not agree with me.
Had a telephone consult with my doc who said have the hormone tablets that will make it heavier next month but hopefully my appointment should come through before then as she is going to push it along. Hopefully bleeding should stop in two to three days if not call her again.

Re: Adenomyosis
Woot! Finally got my appointment through for the hospital, not till this time next month but at last I have one. The doctors also phoned as they were going to chase it up again if I hadn't already gotten one.
I feel lots better since I started on the tablets, just the odd ache but no bleeding.

Re: Adenomyosis
Thanks Jayne.
Well it has come back ten fold as predicted, which was why I didn't want to have the tablets in the first place. Not even been two weeks grace

Re: Adenomyosis
Finally had my gynae appointment today after having to cancel it due to the accident.
Painful is one word I would use.
I had a smear, byopsy and marena coil fitted all in one go!
Smear was fine, byopsy hurt a little, coil fitting was agony. Had severe pains on my right and through my back, like really bad period pains/contractions. I am glad to say that a couple of strong painkillers later it is a dull ache now but I finally have had it done
I have to go back on 4 months for another check up and to make sure it has settled well. Hopefully my periods will stop but I am not holding my breath on that one as I came on today anyway but thankfully they carried on with the procedures as I had just literally started on entrance to the hospital. My timing never was good lols.
I have also been given a prescription for something acid to help with blood flow and pains in the meantime.
Wish me luck folks x

Re: Adenomyosis
Well had the marena coil fitted for over two weeks now and no cramps or heavy bleeding. I don't feel as bloated, think the pill had something to do with that. However I have been 'spotting' ever since, so kinda like a sloooow drawn out period lol. Hopefully my body will adjust soon and it will stop.
Re: Adenomyosis
Thought I had lost the coil the other week lol! But it is still there and I still have spotting but not as much and even had a little period. No pains, no cramps, no draining feeling, it was wonderful not to have to go and change every half hour or so or worry. Best thing I ever did!

Re: Adenomyosis
Okay huge update and it isn't good I am afraid.
Still do not think I have lost it but can't feel it! I have had severe period pains down one side and bleeding to match There hasn't been a day in the past four weeks where I haven't been bleeding or spotting and I am really fed up now. I have hospital appointment beginning of March so fingers crossed something will be done. However I have to go on medication to stop the bleeding so think can look. On top of all that I also have a small prolapse on my cervix which is also being investigated. My body is falling apart me thinks. I am so tired on an evening that as soon as I get home it is bath, food and not long after bed. As you can imagine I am constantly drained of energy. I have some acid tablets to ease supposedly the flow and pain but they are not helping much either. So watch this space folks. I wish I could have it all whipped out!

Re: Adenomyosis
Me too Helen and thanks. Feel really tired today so drinking some red wine to up my iron intake, had a plate full of broccoli as well.
Re: Adenomyosis
lms - poor you, I'm very, very sympathetic. I know what it's like, had very similar problems 15 years ago - constant bleeding and such acute tiredness. Anaemia reached a point where iron tablets didn't do it anymore and I had to go in for blood transfusions. I did have it all whipped out in the end; it wasn't an easy decision as I was just 40 and had also just got married, but it was definitely one of my better decisions - all the problems disappeared almost overnight. Treatment seems to have changed over the years and they are not so keen on surgery now, but it certainly worked for me. Hope you feel better and get some real help at your next appointment.

Re: Adenomyosis
Lol at the whip it out campaign
A set back in that my appointment for tomorrow has been cancelled due to shortage of staff and now moved to beginning of April! I have a few days respite as I have been taking some tablets to stop the flow due to my planned appointment tomorrow. I know that once they have run through my system it will be back to normal and will have to make do until April. Costing a fortune in sanitary goods as you can imagine. I am going to force the issue of having it all whipped out and will gladly be on hormones tablets, hormonal anyway so will not make a difference ha ha ha.
