HLTA and performance management Empty HLTA and performance management

Post by ricycle1 Wed Mar 12, 2014 8:36 pm

I've recently had 2 lesson observations for my performance management review. Unfortunately I was graded as a teacher and recieved an RI (requires improvement ) is there any protocol that observers have to follow while observing HLTA's or do they have to meet the teacher standards? Then after having my pm meeting, I was told I'm in performance related pay (I thought this was for teachers?) can anyone clarify this? Now because I hadn't got a good lesson observation, the school want to put me on an action plan, can they do this? I'm not a qualified teacher and feel this is quite unfair. I do my job as best as I can and follow all the correct procedures. Please help, any advice greatly recieved before I go in head first! Xxx

I am always observed through teacher standards but I am not in performance related pay (not that it would make any difference as I cant go any higher in my pay scale). I would say contact your union as far as I'm concerned p.r.p. is only for teachers. I don't know if all hlta's are observed to teacher standards I only know I am. As I teach I expect to be observed using them. I can only say contact your union for advice
Good luck

HLTA's should not be observed and in a way yes you are on performance related pay as in you do not move up the next point on the scale. (performance management) contact your union
