When using text on the interactive white board and / or overhead I highlight alternative lines in different colours. This enables children who are less confident at tracking text to identify where they are in their writing.

In addition with any literacy texts we are reading, Itape the text onto cassette tapes, and have the tapes available in our listening corner, so the less able readers can listen and read the text either before or after we have read the text as a whole class. This audio-visual method accelerates their confidence and increases their vocabulary.

These are really succesful strategies for enabling poor readers to increase their skills.
