nursery nurse/ TA level 2
Hi everyone,
Thanks to this site I'm an HLTA yippee! !but still employed as a Nursery Nurse in my school. My problem is I have been given a new job description and my position has changed from Nursery Nurse to TA level 2. Can the school do this and is TA level 2 equivalent to a diploma in Nursery Nursing? Any help would be greatly appreciated x

Re: nursery nurse/ TA level 2
perhaps lil miss would be best answering this as she is involved with gmb. I seem to remember something about Nursery nurse's job name been changed from n.n. to t.a.
I know our nursery staff are called t.a.'s. Where you consulted about this? have other conditions changed e.g. pay? if you are worried I would have a chat with yr union rep

During a restructure a couple of years ago, our Nursery Nurse's job title was changed to Early Years Practitioner. I know her role remained the same, but have no idea about pay. Checking it out with your union rep sounds like very good advice.

Thanks for the replies, its much appreciated!! Last year my hours were upped and the contract stated my position as Nursery Nurse. I'm just confused how I'm a level 3 but then changed to TA level 2. I think seeing my union rep may be the way to go.

Have they terminated your last contract? Did you sign the new one and have you started working under the new contract? Was there a consultation period?
This has been in process for a long while now and you should have had meetings with SMT and unions at the same time. Oh and was your last contract a permanent one? I would definitely seek advice from your union rep who should have been involved with this from the start!
Please let us all know how you get on x

Re: nursery nurse/ TA level 2
Hi! all they have done is upped my hours and made me permanent full time. I wasn't asked to sign anything as my job description was staying the same it was only my hours that were changing. I have always been a Nursery Nurse level 3 in my school (10yrs) but now the head has handed out new job descriptions that she wants us to sign and these say TA level 2. Another girl phoned our local HR to get advice and she just laughed at her and said it was ridiculous. Our union seem to know nothing about anything! !

Let me guess Unison by any chance??
So hours are more, you are now permanent and your job description has changed? When was your old contract due to expire? Are you doing the hours and job description items now? If you have then you have agreed to abide by these and should you stop you would be in breech of contract, new pone that is sadly, even if you haven't signed.
You need to get the union in asap and meet with all staff that are having these changes. If HR think it is daft then there is something wrong. I don't normally side with HR but in this case I do.

Re: nursery nurse/ TA level 2
I'll see the girls on Monday and get the union in ASAP. We all have management meetings with our line managers next week and that's when the head wants the job descriptions signed and collected in. I'll keep you posted. Big thanks x
