hi
i hope everyone is ok this morning?

I am currently doing my last assignment on a F.D course (yayyyyyyyyyyyyy:D )
This study is about exclusion and school rules. I am trying to gather peoples views on school rules. I would be grateful if you could tell me your opinions on
Why do we have school rules? Is it for the children to conform and keep them safe or for the adults working in the setting to make their job easier?
many thanks in advance
x

To make a safer and more positive learning environment. Every child has a right to education and those that disturb this should be offered alternative ways of teaching. I totally agree with having boundaries for children.

I absolutely agree - children do need boundaries - and they need to know exactly what they are and that there will be consequences if they overstep them. As a school, we have decided to have 'values' rather than 'rules' - aspiration, resilience, compassion, friendship, courage and honesty. It's a very new idea so too early to say if it's as effective as clear 'rules'.

our school rules are decided by the children. They are rights and responsibilities. You have the right to..... but the responsibility to........ The children decide the rules and the consequences which go with the breaking of these rules. They are for the benefit of the children but of course do help the adults
